Blog in a Box - setup a raspberry pi wordpress website on the go!

If Setting up Wordpress on the raspberry pi is all about fun, then doing it with Blog in a Box is more a cake.

No raw coding and configuring of Nginx, PHP was needed. Also, No slow site as you could use Cloudflare to take care of the speed.

Things you need:

  • Raspberry pi(except raspberry pi 4 version)
  • 32/64 GB memory card
  • Home wifi router
The good thing about Blog in a box is the hardware accessibility and also the camera support into the raspberry pi.

Let's make the image ready for blog in a box.

Download the program for building the image from https://inabox.blog/

The process looks really simple, starting with wifi user and password.

After this enter the WordPress and database details which is very obvious to make it work.

Now everything is done on flashing the image into the SD card. Lets, start to boot the image from raspberry pi.

Once you boot, log in with username pi and the password entered at the flash time.

Just a few minor tweaks to get it to work with plugins inside WordPress.

type in “cd wordpress”

Press “Enter”

Type in “sudo nano wp-config,php”

Press “Enter”

Scroll down to where it says “DB_collate”

Create a new line and type “define(‘FS_METHOD’, ‘direct’);”

Press “Ctrl X”, “Y” and “Enter”

Type in “sudo chmod -R 755 /opt/wordpress/wp-content/”

Press “Enter”

Type in “sudo chown -R www-data:www-data /opt/wordpress”

Press “Enter”

Now, WordPress plugins and themes can be configured. Use the Cloudflare plugin to map the ip to the domain of yours.

And also use ddclient to update IP regularly.
I have tested it now with https://blog.techiebouncer.com
